Astrid Gjesing writes and creates visual art basically to get rid of memories. And memories are precisely the turning point in her solo exhibition “Hasn´t she been here before” at KH7artspace, Aarhus.
The most eminent subjects are Astrid Gjesing´s sensitive and vulnerable mind, and her childhood memories of anxiety, about feeling invisible and lonely and about longing for intimacy and love. Themes that are equally fundamental in “Hasn´t she been here before”. In the diary project “Journal” (2017) one can find this statement of an anxiety attack: “I have been here before, and there is a word for this: abandoned.”
Hasn´t she been here before? Is build around six installations, containing new artworks created specifically for this show, and with a number of existing artworks processed further – a typical feature in Gjesing´s art. 3 of the installation have a sound-work connected to them. They are created together with the composer Sisse Lunøe.
