The Earth Bears Your Mark

When I got the commission to create ”Jorden bærer dit aftryk” (“The Earth bears your Mark”) for The City council of Horsens, I started to investigate the city, which I did not know of. I walked around the city, and I got to know the city with lots of outdoor decorations. And what I was most occupied by was the famous son of Horsens Vitus Bering. He had been Danish naval officer in the Russian army and later explorer on the two Kamtjatka-expeditions, where it was demonstrated that Siberia and North America was not connected but divided by a strait. It was names Bering Strait after the polar explorer, he crossed the Strait in 1728. A first I discovered Vitus Bering Square in the center of the city, but when I discovered Kamtjatka 13, Student House, I found it an obvious place – college for international students – that would expend the experience of my decoration.
