NYT LYS 3
Group exhibition, neon ”Lysets tøven” (Hesitation of Light) Park at Sophienholm Kunsthal. 2023
The park surrounding Sophienholm Kunsthal is one of the very few places in the capital area that at night contains a very intense darkness. Six prominent contemporary artists working with light as their medium use this space to present the art project “New Light” for the third time.
When you visit the park, you are invited to embark on a journey to seek out the art works that are situated in the many rooms in the park.
Find e.g. a neon-poem by the grand old lady of neon poems Astrid Gjesing that says “The Hesitation of Light”. The title is a quotation from the Danish astronomer and engineer Ole Rømer (1644 - 1710). He was the first person to realize that the light spread with a final speed. He called his discovery “The Hesitation of the Light”.
This scientific statement contains a non-voluntary poetic/philosophical dimension, that inspired me to work artistically by creating the text in white neon.
An unimaginable saying that combines science and art, theory with knowledge, and due to its physical size 27 x 175 cm – is an intimate and surprising work of art, that opens into multiple interpretations.
