Hasn´t she been here before?
Solo exhibition at KH7Artspace, Aarhus. 2023
Astrid Gjesing writes and creates art works primarily to get rid of memories. And memories are exactly the turning point in her solo exhibition “Hasn’t she been here before?” at KH7artspace, Aarhus.
The main subjects are Astrid Gjesings sensitive and vulnerable mind, and memories from her childhood with anxiety, feelings of being invisible and lonely and the longing for proximity and care. Subjects which are fundamentally in “Hasn’t she been here before?” In the diary work “Journal” (2017) which is part of the exhibition one can read about an anxiety attack: “I have been here before, and there is a word for this: abandoned.”
“Hasn´t she been here before?” contained of six installations, both new art works created specifically for this exhibition, and existing art works, further processed – a typical character in Gjesings art works. For three of the installations there are attached a sound work created together with the composer Sisse Lunøe.
A catalog is published for the exhibition, among other texts with text by art historian Mette Haakonsen.
